Inspiring Colour Schemes
Even the smallest splash of colour can transform a space, but often choosing exactly the right colour to use is one of the most challenging tasks. In this issue of Yes Express we will show you some of our favourite colour combinations as well as giving you useful tips on how to get started in creating the perfect colour scheme for your home.
Fabric is an excellent reference point to use as a starting point for a colour scheme. Here we have used a fabric reference to create a stunning colour scheme for a dining area. For more advice on creating your own colour scheme, talk to the helpful staff at your local Paint Place store. |

Expert TipsWendy Moore is the Editor of Home Beautiful Magazine, one of Australia’s most established decorating titles. She is a well known speaker and industry expert on colour. Wendy shares her expert tips on how to get started on a colour scheme and how to make sure you choose a style that suits your personality..
"The best colour palettes are the ones that have been built over time, we are rarely just attracted to one palette and one look, often we swing in several directions. The trick is to continually collect images that inspire you, collate them in one folder or file, and gradually see which colour scheme dominates your collection. Go through your inspiration collection every few months and edit out the images that don't grab you, and you'll see a theme building.
Once you have your inspiration scheme, start collecting actual samples of paints, fabrics and finishes and sit them alongside the images - this is when the tones and undertones of your colour choices will begin to come together. You'll be able to instantly see if a colour or fabric has different undertones to the rest of the scheme - and that will avoid mistakes later on." |

Best Colour SchemesThere are some colours that are a perfect backdrop to overlay accent colours. New Look Pebble White is a warm off white that works well with purples, olive greens and charcoal. Otherwise try New Look Nova with deep navy or rich red.
Accent colours can either be used on walls or feature areas, or try painting a canvas as a way of introducing new colours in small pieces to your room. Fun accent colours such as New Look Toulon or Carmina will have a dramatic impact on a neutral background. Alternatively you can add these colours into your scheme using fabric, cushions or accessories |
