The New Year is here and although it may not have started quite the way we hoped, there is a lot to look forward to when it comes to all things paint! We have put together a list of the top five architectural and paint trends we expect to see throughout the year, so you can get ahead of the game and give your home’s interior or exterior the freshen up it needs.
Trend 1 – Chromatic Joy
Taubmans realised that when the pandemic arrived, we looked at colours differently. So, they created their colour palette “chromatic joy”.
“Our colour work seemed irrelevant and felt disingenuous. So we stopped and took the time to think about the most useful thing we could do as a paint company in these challenging times. Chromatic Joy presents an entirely new, home-grown paint palette that harnesses the optimism of bright, bold colours - all with a dialled-down hue to suit Australian and New Zealand sensibilities and our bright southern light.”

Trend 2 – French Blues
The jewel-like French blue is back in force this year, with interiors set to be popping with the vibrant shade. Take this one from Bristol Paints, Royal Cloak, and give your living room the feature wall it’s been craving.
Trend 3 – 70s Revival
It’s no secret that the 70s is back with force, and we aren’t complaining. Remember when we’d practically retch at the sight of a green kitchen? No more! These colours are here to stay, such as ‘Blue Shamrock’ from Bristol Paints; anchored in nature, this green promote a sense of comfort, regeneration and rejuvenation, which we all need a little more of in our lives right now, don’t you think?
Trend 4 – Earthy Vibes
Brown has been having its moment recently and we can see why. A neutral with a bit of warmth is exactly the type of timeless trend that 2022 is all about. One of our favourites is Resene’s Almond Frost, described as a lambswool slipper cocoa brown. A lick of this in the bedroom, bathroom or living space is the ultimate addition for optimum comfort.
Trend 5 – Dreamy White
We want our spaces to feel calm and peaceful, so the white-on-white trend is back with force. Take Luxury Paints’ ‘Frosty the Snowman’ for example, inspired by the snowy peaks on the mountain ranges of Australia, used to create a sense of cleanliness and peace, white also highlighting accent colours placed alongside it. It’s no wonder this simple but elegant trend will persevere.
So, there you have it! 2022’s paint trends are revealed. Make sure you head into your local Paint Place store to speak to one of our experts that can assist with colour advice and step-by-step guidance on how to tackle your painting project. Happy New Year!
